This course introduces students to the methodology of American Studies. Students then apply that methodology to study of American culture since 1877. Three key points of focus will be the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, and the development of the National Park Service. Students will edit Wikipedia pages related to those topics, beginning their research by reading Erik Larson's The Devil and the White City, Mine Okubo's Citizen 13660, and Jordan Fisher Smith's Engineering Eden.
